Physical Demands Analysis

While most employers develop Job Descriptions, often the ‘Physical Requirements’ section provides less-than-optimal detail. For employers doing business in Colorado, a critical threshold is established by the Division of Worker’s Compensation Rules of Procedure, #17.

Colorado’s occupational medicine physicians and allied healthcare providers have striven through extensive research review to identify and validate ergonomic risk factors for work-related injuries. This positions Colorado’s workforce, employers, and workers’ compensation payers to benefit from using these criteria to inform their health and safety practices. The first step is to quantify physical demands for the jobs that keep Colorado moving forward.

Moving beyond behavior-based approaches to leading indicators, employers have the opportunity to get in front of injury incidence and severity using leading indicators. Following NIOSH’s recommended Hierarchy of Controls to drive Recommendations, our Ergonomics Evaluations engage stakeholders across the organization, carefully selecting assessment tools to stratify Risk, while ultimately striving toward growth in Safety Culture.

NIOSH Hierarchy of Controls

Our training programs foster level-up content appropriate for different areas of an organization, using a solid understanding of key job tasks to explain  Musculoskeletal Disorder (MSD)   Risk Factors. Scenario-based practice fosters generalization of principles to empower workers and leadership to identify risks and work toward development of appropriate controls.
